After a long time of consideration, today, Boxing day, the 26th of December 2024, I have decided to leave my job as a software engineer to pursue my own projects as a solo founder.
While I do not have many years of technical experience in the tech industry, I have acquired sufficient skills through college, internships, and my workplace. This is what I to do full-time: building something that I can take full ownership and responsibility.
Why now?
The number one push was that this is what I’ve always dreamed of doing- I want this thing so bad. Here are my other reasons:
Timing is right: Still young and energetic
No much responsibilities: No spouse, kids, or family members depending on my paycheck, giving me more room to experiment
The Hungriest: I am in the optimal mindset to build, with a very strong drive to succeed
What will I be working on?
Moving forward, I’ll be focusing on existing projects. My primary focus is Cipo where I’ll continue iterating based on user feedback while doubling down on marketing efforts.
I have several other ideas, but I plan to focus on building projects in these key areas:
B2B SaaS - targeting small and medium-sized businesses
iOS consumer mobile applications
Cybersecurity solutions
Other Initiatives:
Writing:
I’ve also decided to focus on improving my writing skills. As a creative and innovator, writing is essential for better communicator, articulation and expressing your ideas or products to potential buyers and partners. To achieve this, I plan on publishing an article weekly, starting today, for the forseeable future. This blog will serve as my weekly drawing board to share my progress in building products and my thoughts on technology and cybersecurity.
Content:
Finally, I plan to venture into content, primarily through video. I believe that going forward, any innovator, needs a platform to communicate their ideas effectively. While I’m not yet comfortable in front of the camera, I’m willing to embrace this challenge. It is going to be the similar content, sharing my building progress, my thoughts on technology, and analysis of academic papers that i find interesting. I’ve launched a Youtube channel, Ditrick, - feel free to check it out.
Conclusion:
Like many entrepreneurs, I am weirdly uncertain about how this is going to turn out or its potential outcome. I am mostly going to rely on my dedication, laps, faith, and hardwork. I’m confident that, with persistence, something is going to click over time.
